Method 2: Google Meet PWA Desktop App (Chrome/Edge Install)
Chrome and Edge let you install Meet as a standalone desktop app — same web engine, but it opens in its own window with a taskbar icon and system notifications for incoming calls.
How to install
- Open meet.google.com in Chrome or Edge

The free plan allows 60-minute meetings with up to 100 participants — there is no time limit for 1-on-1 calls (Google removed the 60-minute cap for 1-on-1 meetings).
Audio & Video Quality Tips
Microphone: Use a headset or external USB microphone for best call quality. Meet's noise cancellation (built-in, free tier) will suppress keyboard clicks, fans, and ambient noise. If noise cancellation causes audio artifacts, disable it in Settings → Audio.
Camera: Meet supports 1080p camera input if your webcam is 1080p. The actual stream quality your participants see depends on their internet speed and Meet's adaptive bitrate.
Internet: Meet recommends 3.2 Mbps up/down for HD video. On slower connections, it degrades gracefully to 360p-480p rather than dropping the call.

Troubleshooting
Can't access camera or microphone Browser must have camera/mic permission. In Chrome: click the lock icon in the address bar → Camera → Allow / Microphone → Allow. In Windows: Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera / Microphone — ensure Chrome is listed and allowed.
Green screen or camera frozen Close other apps that might be using the webcam (Teams, Zoom, OBS). If camera shows a green frame in Meet but works elsewhere, restart Chrome or disable hardware acceleration: chrome://settings → Advanced → System → Use hardware acceleration when available → toggle off → restart.
