Offline Downloads
Download terms on Max:
- Expiry: 30 days from download date; 48 hours after you start watching
- Per-device limit: 15–30 titles depending on plan

Desktop browsers cannot stream Max in 4K on Windows or Linux — this is a DRM platform limitation (L1 required for 4K is only available in the app). No workaround exists.

Is Showtime on Max?
No. Showtime (Dexter, Yellowjackets, Billions, Homeland) is on the Paramount+ with Showtime bundle, not Max. The two are separate services owned by different studios (Warner Bros. Discovery vs. Paramount Global). Do not confuse the two.
Warner Bros. Same-Day Releases
During 2021, Warner Bros. released its entire theatrical slate same-day on HBO Max (now Max). This ended in 2022, and the current policy is:
- Most Warner Bros. theatrical films come to Max approximately 45 days after theatrical release
- Some films may have longer windows based on performance
- Max original films (not theatrical) go directly to Max on release day
Screen Sharing
Max uses HDCP content protection. Screen-capture tools see a black rectangle:

No dedicated Max desktop app for Mac exists. Safari with an M-chip Mac is the closest equivalent to the Windows app.
Linux
Max works in Chrome on Linux via Widevine DRM at up to 1080p. Firefox on Linux requires manually enabling Widevine in about:preferences#privacy. No Linux client exists.
