Introduction
Genshin Impact is one of the most-played games on the planet — and you don't need a phone or console to enjoy it. HoYoverse offers an official Windows PC client that delivers the full Teyvat experience with higher frame rates, larger resolution, and a mouse that makes bow-character combat feel completely different. If you're on a Mac, or if you want to manage multiple accounts, BlueStacks covers that path too.
This guide walks through every option: how to download the official launcher, how to set up BlueStacks for Mac users, how cross-save works, and how to fix the most common problems.
Option 1: Official HoYoverse PC Client (Windows — Recommended for Windows Users)
The official Genshin Impact Windows client is the best way to play on PC. It beats the Android/BlueStacks route on every metric for Windows users: native DirectX rendering, higher fps cap, 4K resolution support, and no translation layer overhead.
Download and Install
- Go to the official Genshin Impact website (genshin.hoyoverse.com) and click Download for PC.
- Run the downloaded installer (
GenshinImpact_install.exe). This installs the HoYoverse Launcher. - In the launcher, click Install next to Genshin Impact. The game client is ~30–40 GB. Make sure your drive has at least 50 GB free.
- Once installation finishes, click Launch.
- Log in with your HoYoverse account. If you don't have one, register with an email — your existing mobile progress is tied to this account.
Performance Settings
Open the in-game Settings → Graphics:
| Setting | Minimum (budget PC) | Recommended (mid-range) | High-end |
|---|---|---|---|
| Display Mode | 1280×720 Windowed | 1920×1080 Fullscreen | 2560×1440 or 4K Fullscreen |
| Frame Rate | 30 fps | 60 fps | 120 fps (needs 120Hz monitor + GPU) |
| Rendering Quality | Low | High | Highest |
| Shadow Quality | Low | High | Highest |
| Anti-Aliasing | Off | SMAA | TAA |
Minimum PC spec: Intel Core i5 or AMD equivalent / 8 GB RAM / NVIDIA GTX 1060 6 GB or AMD RX 5500 XT / Windows 7 64-bit SP1.
Recommended: Intel Core i7 / 16 GB RAM / NVIDIA GTX 1080 Ti or better.
For 120 fps you need both a 120 Hz monitor and a GPU with enough headroom (RTX 3070 or better at 1080p).
Controller Support
The official PC client has full native controller support. Plug in an Xbox or PlayStation controller before launching — Genshin detects it automatically and switches the UI button prompts. Both Xbox (XInput) and PlayStation (DualSense/DualShock 4 via USB or Bluetooth) work without additional software.
Option 2: BlueStacks (Mac Users + Multi-Account)
HoYoverse does not offer a native Mac client for Genshin Impact. If you're on a Mac — whether Intel or Apple Silicon — BlueStacks is the supported emulator path. BlueStacks is also the right choice for players who want to run multiple Genshin accounts simultaneously (Primogem farming on alts, for example).
BlueStacks 5 Setup for Genshin Impact
Recommended settings:
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| CPU Cores | 4 |
| RAM | 6144 MB (6 GB) minimum; 8192 MB recommended |
| Frame Rate | 60 fps |
| Resolution | 1280×720 |

| Graphics Engine | DirectX (Windows) / Vulkan (Apple Silicon Mac via Rosetta 2) |
| Performance Mode | High Performance |
Installation steps:
- Download BlueStacks 5 from the official BlueStacks website.
- Launch BlueStacks, open the App Center, and search for Genshin Impact.
- Install from the Play Store. The game will download its full data pack (~12–15 GB Android version) inside BlueStacks.
- Launch Genshin, log in with your HoYoverse account.
Apple Silicon Mac (M1/M2/M3/M4): BlueStacks runs via Rosetta 2 translation. You should expect 45–60 fps at Medium settings. For M-series Macs, enable Virtualization in System Preferences → Privacy & Security → Virtualization before installing BlueStacks.
Multi-instance (multi-account): Open BlueStacks → Multi-Instance Manager → Add New Instance. Each instance runs a separate Google account. Use this to pull wishes on multiple accounts simultaneously.
In-Game Control Mapping
The BlueStacks Android version of Genshin shares the same keybinding schema as the PC client once you enable the keyboard controls inside the game (Settings → Controls → Enable Keyboard Controls on Mobile). Additional keymapping via BlueStacks Keymapping Tool:
| Action | Key |
|---|---|
| Move | WASD |
| Normal Attack | LMB |
| Elemental Skill | E |
| Elemental Burst | Q |
| Switch Character | 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 |
| Sprint | Shift |
| Interact / Pick Up | F |
| Jump | Space |
| Map | M |
| Quest Journal | J |
| Inventory | B |
| Character Menu | C |
| Paimon Menu | Esc |
Cross-Save: Does Genshin Progress Carry Between Devices?
Yes — Genshin Impact uses server-side saves tied to your HoYoverse account. Your Traveler, all characters, weapons, Primogems, adventure rank, story progress, and purchased Genesis Crystals are all stored on HoYoverse servers. Switching from phone to PC to PS5 and back again loses nothing.
One important detail: HoYoverse accounts created on iOS (through the in-game Apple ID path) and accounts created on Android via Google use the same HoYoverse account system. As long as you log in with the same HoYoverse account (or the same linked email/social account) on all platforms, your save is the same.
Can I transfer from iOS to Android? Yes — log in with your HoYoverse account or the email you used to register. Your save is not iOS-specific. Guest accounts are the exception: guest save data is device-local and cannot be transferred.
PS5 cross-save note: PlayStation and PC/Mobile are separate save files as of 2026. There is no cross-save between PlayStation and other platforms — this is a Sony licensing restriction, not a HoYoverse choice.
One active session at a time: Launching Genshin on PC while your phone is mid-session will kick the phone client. This is expected behavior.
PC Advantages Over Mobile
Mouse Aim for Bow Characters
Genshin's aiming mode (Aimed Shot for bow characters like Ganyu, Fischl, Tighnari, Yelan, Tartaglia in ranged stance) works with mouse control on PC. This fundamentally changes how charged attacks feel: you can flick to a weak spot, control your draw time, and track moving targets with precision that a phone joystick cannot match. Ganyu's charged Frostflake Arrow in particular benefits enormously from mouse aim.
120 fps
The PC client supports a 120 fps cap (Settings → Graphics → Frame Rate → 60/120). Mobile is limited to 60 fps on even the most powerful phones (and many throttle to 30 fps during long sessions due to heat). With a 120 Hz monitor and mid-range GPU (RTX 3060+), Genshin's combat animation and camera feel noticeably smoother.
No Thermal Throttle
Genshin is a demanding mobile game. Most phones throttle performance after 20–30 minutes of continuous play to manage heat. On PC there is no throttle — Natlan exploration, Spiral Abyss runs, and co-op boss farms all stay at consistent frame rates throughout the session.
Extended Resin Sessions
Daily resin (now Trounce Blossoms / Original Resin system) farming benefits from PC for the same reason: no battery management, no thermal throttle, consistent uptime across the full daily resin cycle.
Troubleshooting
Game crashes on launch
- Update your GPU driver to the latest version (NVIDIA GeForce Experience or AMD Adrenalin).
- In the HoYoverse Launcher Settings, try switching between DirectX 11 and DirectX 12.
- Run the launcher as Administrator (right-click → Run as administrator).
Stuck on loading / network error
- Add the HoYoverse Launcher (
HYPLauncher.exe) and Genshin Impact (GenshinImpact.exe) to your Windows Defender and antivirus whitelist/exclusions. - Genshin's anti-cheat component (MiHoYo Shield) is sometimes flagged by over-aggressive AV software. Adding the entire Genshin install folder to exclusions resolves most network errors.
Black screen after launching
- Try toggling the graphics API: in the launcher, click the gear icon → Graphics Settings → switch between DirectX 11 and DirectX 12.
- If using BlueStacks, toggle between DirectX and OpenGL in BlueStacks Settings → Graphics.
Low FPS despite good GPU
- Set Windows Power Plan to High Performance (Control Panel → Power Options).
- Close background applications, especially Chrome (which can consume 1–3 GB RAM) and Discord overlay.
- In Genshin's settings, turn off Anti-Aliasing and reduce Shadow Quality first — these have the highest per-frame cost.
Launcher update loop / corrupted file
- In the HoYoverse Launcher, use the Repair button (gear icon → Repair) to re-download corrupted files without losing your save.
BlueStacks: game won't start on Apple Silicon Mac
- Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and ensure BlueStacks has Virtualization permission.
- Make sure BlueStacks is fully up to date (BlueStacks 5 latest build is required for M1–M4 stability).
High ping / lag spikes in co-op
- Use Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi.
- In Settings → Network, confirm your selected server is correct (NA/EU/Asia/TW-HK-MO servers — you cannot change server without starting a new account).
Frequently Asked Questions
Does my progress carry from phone to PC? Yes. Log in with the same HoYoverse account and all your characters, primogems, progress, and purchased currency are waiting. Nothing is device-specific except guest-mode saves.
Can I play Genshin on Mac natively? Not as of 2026. HoYoverse has not released a native Mac or iOS desktop app. Your options are BlueStacks (best supported) or CrossOver (experimental, mixed results).
Is there a ban risk for using BlueStacks? No. HoYoverse does not use kernel-level anti-cheat that detects emulators. The community has used BlueStacks for Genshin since launch without ban incidents. Bans on Genshin are exclusively for third-party cheat software (damage hacks, map hacks), not for emulator use itself.
Is the official PC client better than BlueStacks? For Windows users, the official client is better in every way: native DirectX rendering, higher fps cap, lower RAM usage, and full controller support. Only use BlueStacks if you're on Mac or need multi-account functionality.
What GPU do I need for 60 fps at 1080p High settings? NVIDIA GTX 1060 6 GB or AMD RX 5700 is sufficient for 60 fps at 1080p on High. For 60 fps at 1440p, aim for RTX 3060 or RX 6700 XT. For 120 fps at 1080p, RTX 3070 or better.
Can I use a controller? Yes. Xbox One/Series and PlayStation DualSense/DualShock 4 controllers work natively in the official PC client. Plug in before launching — Genshin auto-detects and switches button prompts. No additional software needed for Xbox controllers; PlayStation controllers may need DS4Windows on older Windows builds.
Does PlayStation have shared progress with PC? No. PlayStation accounts have a separate save from PC/mobile accounts due to Sony licensing agreements. This is a platform restriction, not a HoYoverse feature.
